Why the Government is saying no to short and sharp lockdowns for New Zealand

The Government is not considering putting the country into a nationwide COVID-19 lockdown because they do not think it will be beneficial.

At a press conference on Thursday, COVID-19 Response Minister Dr Ayesha Verrall said a firm "no" when asked if the Government has considered a short and sharp lockdown.

"As a variant gets more infectious, the effectiveness of lockdown decreases," she said.
