New Zealand Indian Business Association condemns Government's "soft-on-crime" approach

The New Zealand Indian Business Association (NZIBA) has condemned the Government's "soft-on-crime" approach after multiple ram-raids and burglaries across Auckland.

The NZBIA held a meeting on Monday to discuss what action needs to be taken to prevent crime from increasing. The members of the association feel that the Government isn't doing enough to stop crime in the Auckland area.

"The ethnic businesses in particular, which become the main target and victims, have started to feel that the Government has so far shown gross inaction and a lackadaisical approach in dealing with the issue, which is becoming a major cause of worry and sense of insecurity," chairperson Davinder Rahal said in a statement.

Rahal added the group said there is a need for immediate support and relief for the victims of the ram raids "who are facing the financial brunt" and "undergoing mental trauma and living under constant fear" daily.

The team has taken it upon themselves to meet with authorities and political members as well as submitting a memorandum to make sure their voices are heard and action is taken.

The NZBIA added that if it is required, they will hold a peaceful protest to express their disappointment for those who have been affected in the community.
