National leader Christopher Luxon reflects on low points as he marks one year as National Party leader

Christopher Luxon has reflected on his first year as National Party leader, admitting there are areas where he could've done better.

Wednesday marks exactly one year in the top role for Luxon after he took the reins from former leader Judith Collins.

Luxon told AM on Wednesday that he "feels great" and believes the party has made "tremendous progress" but wasn't content.

"There is always more to do and I'm always constructively dissatisfied so it's going to be quite a fun year ahead," Luxon told AM co-host Ryan Bridge.

When looking back on the year, Luxon said there were a couple of moments that stood out as a "low moment".

"There are always things I could do better. I think the low point of the year was my four-day holiday to Te Puke really," Luxon said.
Bridge chipped in saying, "I don't think anyone is going to argue with you there".

Luxon was referring to a social media post he shared in July suggesting he was in Te Puke when he was actually holidaying in Hawaii.

He later admitted he had made a mistake.

"We made a mistake and we own up to it, we front it," he said. "We should have captioned the post differently. That's what we should have done," Luxon said in July.

Another "low point" Luxon said was declaring to Bridge that "he liked country music".

When asked what he would rate himself out of 10 for his first year in charge, Luxon gave himself a seven.
