Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern given sassy mug by AM team, gifts punny honey in return

The Prime Minister was gifted a sassy mug featuring AM hosts Melissa Chan-Green and Ryan Bridge on Monday.

Jacinda Ardern joined AM for her last interview before Christmas where the team revealed they had a gift for her - but there was a small catch.

"We have enjoyed having you on the show and we do appreciate it so we have got you a little gift," Chan-Green revealed.

"It's actually got held up in the mail, somehow these supply chain disruptions," she joked.

Bridge then jumped in saying, "Normally we are quite good with this as you would know Prime Minister but we are actually so slack we have to show you a photo of the gift."

Ardren was then shown a photo of a white mug with a full-body picture of the hosts on one side and one of her classic quotes from the show on the other.

The Prime Minister appeared delighted by the gift laughing and saying, "it's got probably my most repeated phrase… It says, 'Will you let me finish'."

The quote is a reference to the Prime Minister's many tense interviews with the hosts over the year, but Melissa Chan-Green joked it was because Ardern never gets to finish her tea.

Something the Prime Minister said was actually very accurate.

"I'm actually, Clarke [Gayford] will tell you, terrible at finishing my tea," she joked before revealing she also had a gift for the hosts.

"I hope you've received my small token of appreciation in return."

The hosts then held up their gifts which were jars of honey made from the bees at the Prime Minister's Wellington residence, Premier House.

"We call it Premier House Honey. So in the back garden where I live here in Wellington - Premier House, it's a big back garden so I've put in some beehives and we've had them for a couple of years and now they're producing enough honey that we have enough to share," Ardern said.

"That's a really lively gift, thank you so much," Chan-Green said. While Bridge delighted in a pun on the back of the jar.

"Pollen-tician approved, very cool," he said before thanking Ardern for coming on the programme throughout the year.
