Video: Te Pati Māori co-leader Rawiri Waititi grabbed by angry man during party's campaign launch

An angry man attempted to pull Te Pati Māori co-leader Rawiri Waititi from the crowd during the party's campaign launch.

Te Pati Māori launched its election campaign in Auckland on Thursday which was filled with festivities and performances of classic Kiwi artists.

The party's co-leaders were in a mosh pit among supporters, watching live music when an angry man weaved his way through to Waititi.

Footage captured by Newshub shows the man launching himself at Waititi, who's dancing with co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer.

The man reaches his arm over and grabs Waititi by the shoulder and attempts to pull Waititi towards him.

Ngarewa-Packer and supporters surrounding the pair react in shock, before what appears to be security escort the man out from the crowd.

When asked about the incident, Ngarewa-Packer jokingly asked Waititi if he was "dancing that bad".

"Was I putting people off that… no, no it was all good," Waititi replied.

A Police spokesperson said the 28-year-old man was taken into custody, where he was given a formal warning for Disorderly Behaviour and Resisting Police.
