Goodbye COVID-19 restrictions, the final remaining health requirements are gone as of midnight.
That means no more isolation if you catch it, no more masks in medical settings, and no more restrictions whatsoever.
Faces be free, the end of an era is here, COVID is over.
"Today I'm announcing the removal of all remaining COVID-19 health requirements," said Prime Minister Chris Hipkins on Monday.
The last remaining relics of an age of disruption tossed to the memory bank.
No more masks in medical facilities, no more isolation periods, COVID will now be treated like any other illness - manage it yourself.
"The formal end of what was a uniquely challenging time for the country and of course for the rest of the world," Hipkins said.
It's been a lot. Three years, four months and 20 days ago New Zealand came grinding to a halt with the announcement of a lockdown.
We panic-bought the supermarkets out of toilet paper, we put teddys in the window and we tuned in for our daily update.
We stayed home, we saved lives and we partied when we heard the magic number: zero cases.
"I did a little dance," said then-Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
"I allowed myself a broad smile," then-Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said at the time.
But it wasn't to last, the next few years were a rollercoaster, plunging in and out of lockdown, crawling toward vaccination goals. Mandates and vaccine passes divided families, driving anger.
"I acknowledge that the requirement for people to be vaccinated to do some jobs was very difficult for some families and it did create more of a wedge in the community than I think any of us would have liked to have seen," said Hipkins.
But now, it's officially over. Wastewater testing shows we've got barely any COVID-19, the latest variants haven't spiked cases like the rest.
Hipkins acknowledged the major Auckland lockdown in 2021 "went on for a long time and there were probably more things we could have done at the end of that period".
Sir Ashley is delighted.
"Great, fantastic. This is a milestone and I texted the minister just to say, 'we made it'" he said.
Epidemiologist Michael Baker informed much of our pandemic response and said let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater - we still need guidance.
"I think we want to know what replaces these requirements... and I think most employers, most education workers, and I think most venue operators want to do the right thing."
Hipkins said: "We stayed home, we made sacrifices, we got vaccinated and there is absolutely no question we saved lives."
Well done New Zealand, we got there.
