Election 2023: Don Brash's Hobson's Pledge returns fire with attack ad taking aim at Chris Hipkins

Lobby group Hobson's Pledge has hit back at the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions (CTU) with an attack ad of its own - this one taking aim at Labour leader Chris Hipkins.

Hobson's Pledge, led by former National Party leader Don Brash, has published an ad featuring a black and white Hipkins with the caption: "Delivers division, not outcomes."

"New Zealanders are fed up with divisive politics," said a Facebook post by Hobson's Pledge, accompanied by an image of the ad in Saturday's NZ Herald.

It comes just weeks after the CTU rolled out a series of attack ads describing National leader Christopher Luxon as "out of touch" and "too much risk".

Attack ads have become a feature of this year's election campaign. On Tuesday, Labour launched a new ad featuring a cartoon of Luxon and ACT leader David Seymour - questioning what cuts the two parties would make in Government such as public transport fares and public services.

But a day later, National fired back with a re-working of Labour's ad using similar imagery.

"Labour has been wasting taxpayer money for way too long," the ad said.
