As it happened: The Hui Māori electorate debate - Te Tai Tokerau candidates

The Hui on Tuesday night hosted its third tautohetohe (debate) of the election season - the Māori electorate of Te Tai Tokerau.

The Greens' Hūhana Lyndon and Te Pāti Māori's Mariameno Kapa-Kingi want to unseat Labour's Kelvin Davis, who has held the seat since 2014.

One of seven Māori electorates, Te Tai Tokerau extends from Te Rerenga Wairua/Cape Rēinga, all the way to Te Raki Paewhenua/North Shore and parts of west Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland.

It's the northernmost Māori electorate, covering the rohe (territory) of six different iwi:

  • Ngāpuhi
  • Te Aupōuri
  • Te Rarawa
  • Ngāti Kuri
  • Ngāti Kahu; and
  • (Part of) Ngāti Whātua rohe.

This debate has now finished.
