Elon Musk has congratulated Prime Minister-elect Christopher Luxon after the National Party's election win on Saturday night.

Luxon, 53, has only been in Parliament for three years and is now working to form a coalition Government if everything goes smoothly. He celebrated his electoral success by posting: "Thank you New Zealand. Now let's go get our country back on track!"

"Congratulations and thank goodness!" Musk responded.

People on the social media platform were quick to respond to his tweet - several of them agreeing with him.

"Now we can get on with getting back to business," one woman wrote.

"Yes, we have the adults back running things," another commented.

Meanwhile, a third person exclaimed his surprise at Musk's post. "Wow, Luxon gets a thumbs up from Elon."

Others snapped back at Musk, with one saying: "If that's not a sign that we're doomed, I don't know what is."

"Wait till @elonmusk realises Luxon is scrapping EV rebates," another added.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also extended his well-wishes to Luxon, along with condolences to former Prime Minister Chris Hipkins.

"Congratulations to @chrisluxonmp on your victory and the great honour of serving as Prime Minister of New Zealand," Albanese wrote. "I look forward to building our trans-Tasman partnership into the future.

"To my friend @chrishipkins, you have served your nation with distinction."
