The Hui on Wednesday night hosted its seventh tautohetohe (debate) of the election debate season.

Tonight's debate was between three contenders vying for the Māori electorate of Te Tai Hauāuru.

Soraya Peke-Mason (Labour) and Harete Hipango (National) are up against incumbent Debbie Ngarewa-Packer (Te Pāti Māori), who has held the seat since the 2020 election.

One of seven Māori electorates, Te Tai Hauāuru includes the main population centres and incorporates the iwi of:

  • Taranaki
  • Whanganui
  • Horowhenua
  • Manawatū
  • Kāpiti
  • Porirua

It also includes the rohe of Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Maniapoto iwi.

Te Tai Hauāuru extends from Kāwhia down to Porirua, and encompasses the whole western coast of Te Ika a Māui - and its boundary follows the Ruahine and Tararua Ranges inland.

Made with support from Te Māngai Pāho and Irirangi Te Motu / New Zealand On Air.
