Harry and Meghan married in a moving ceremony

  • 20/05/2018

Prince Harry looked nervous as he waited for his bride in St Georges Chapel in Windsor Castle.

He shared a few jokes with his brother and best man, the Duke of Cambridge as they anticipated the arrival of Meghan Markel.

Earlier in the day the 600 or so guests had arrived.

The guest list was made of celebrities such as George and Amal Clooney, David and Victoria Beckham and Elton John and David Furnish. Ms Markle’s Suits co-stars were also there, as were a long list of royals.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip were the last guests to make the drive into Windsor Castle.

And then came the bride.

Ms Markle arrived bang on time and was escorted part of the way down the aisle by Prince Charles, her own father too sick to attend.

The dress was designed by Claire Waite and Ms Markle looked radiant.

Harry whispered the simple words “you look amazing” when she stood next to him.

They both smiled the smiles of a young couple in love. They exchanged vows, promising to protect each other and forsake all others.

They exchanged rings, and while the world may have been watching, it was an intimate moment between them.

It seemed an age between the first vows and the moment they were married. We had sermons, hymns and the signing of the register.

With the formalities done the couple walked back down the aisle, this time together, holding hands as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

They emerged from the chapel, and at the top of the steps, in front of a cheering crowd they kissed.

It was an intimate wedding, if 600 guests can be called intimate. You got the sense the couple had decided how it would play out and not royal protocol.

Prince Harry married the woman he loved, and his late mother Diana, who by her own admission was in a loveless marriage with Charles, would have been proud.
