This year is set to be another bumper one for maize growers, says Grant McDonald from Pioneer Brand Products.
Farmers have been looking for ways to reduce their Fat Evaluation Index (FEI), or palm kernel tax and Pioneer has been promoting maize - which is a low protein product and is a useful tool for farmers to manage their FEI results.
Another recent development is growing maize under film.
Mr McDonald says it's a good way to grow maize in cooler temperatures in a greenhouse type system called SAMCO, originally developed out of Ireland for the colder climates.
