A movie focusing on five women in the shearing industry will soon screen to New Zealand audiences.

She Shears had its world premiere at the NZ International Film Festival, to acclaimed reviews.

It introduces two legendary shearers and three in the making as they head for black-shirt glory at the Golden Shears in Masterton.

Presented by Miss Conception films, She Shears is directed by Jack Nicol and produced by Georgina Conder (The Breaker Upperers) and Ainsley Gardiner (The Breaker Upperers, Boy).

"She Shears shows a slice of New Zealand that hasn't been seen on screen before," said Nicol. "It's a heartwarming, feel-good story about five incredible women at the top of their game. We hope Kiwis love it as much as we enjoyed making it."

"I can't wait for audiences from all over New Zealand to see the strong, inspirational women featured in our film," Conder added. "Sheep-shearing has traditionally been a men's sport, but these women prove that anything is possible if you put your mind to it."

The five women featured are world record-holders Jills Angus Burney (Wairarapa) and Emily Welch (north Waikato), along with Hazel Wood (Northland), Catherine Mullooly (King Country) and Pagan Karauria (Otago).

The movie will be in cinemas October 11.
