A Waikato man caught with more than 500 avocados in his boot has been charged with theft.
An off-duty police officer spotted two men with a car boot full of avocados at a business in Bethlehem, Tauranga.
Police say they are satisfied the fruit is stolen and have charged one of the men, a 39-year-old from Waharoa, with theft.
Police are now trying to find the avocados' rightful owner and want anyone with information to call Tauranga Police Station on (07) 577 4300.
