It appears Kiwis start young when it comes to an interest in DIY, with a range of replica power tools proving a popular choice for presents this Christmas.

The range of toys from Husqvarna includes everything from replica chainsaws and hedge trimmers to brushcutters and lawnmowers.

Husqvarna New Zealand regional sales manager, Steve Middleton told Rural Exchange the toys are a real hit.

"The fun thing about these is they work like the real tools," he said.

"For example the chainsaw makes the sound of a real Husqvarna chainsaw, and the rubber chain goes around."

Present ideas for grown up gardeners are also covered.

"Radio earmuffs are popular along with protective gloves and glasses."

He said there's also a big range of tools which make idea gifts for keen gardeners, or for a pre-Christmas tidy up.

Every gardener needs a trimmer, and we also have a great range of pressure washers.

Meanwhile, Mr Middleton will be enjoying a classic Kiwi summer.

"After a family Christmas, we'll be heading to the Marlborough Sounds for a spot of fishing and to relax and recharge."
