Police release names of men killed in Otago farm crash

Police have released the names of two men who died in a crash on a Ranfuly farm.

They were 50-year-old Gary David Murphy and 55-year-old Trevor Floyd Smith, both of the United Kingdom.

The incident took place on Dome Hill Station in the Kakanui Ranges, east of Ranfurly in Otago on March 23rd.

At the time, police said there were eight people riding quad bikes, and it was reported that they were part of a tour group.

However a Worksafe spokesperson said the men were in a side-by-side farm vehicle.

Dome Hills Station owner David Douglas earlier confirmed to Newshub that he was not aware that the group was operating on his land and it had not sought permission.

"They didn't ask permission and we knew nothing about it."

Police and WorkSafe are investigating the crash, while the deaths have been referred to the Coroner.
