With COVID-19 proving just how susceptible global supply chains can be, there is an increasing focus on local produce.
Ian Williams, farm systems specialist at Pioneer Brand Products, says when it comes to producing seed, local focus is a huge strength.
"We're totally local. Our seed's grown in Gissy, by Gissy farmers, it's transported by Kiwi truckers, it's sold by Kiwi firms, planted by Kiwi farmers, fed to Kiwi cows - totally local," Williams told Rural Exchange.
"The cool thing about local is you can go to that farm and you can talk to that farmer and you can see that grain in the paddock and you know that's local, you know that's safe."
