Northland farmer warns of dangers of cattle rustlers

Northland farmer Ian Russell has seen it all over the years.

Since expanding his farm rapidly more than a decade ago to the point where he had 6000 cattle and 12,000 sheep, he has constantly battled against cattle rustlers.

"I did in 10 years what the average farmer would do in two lifetimes. I went from owning very little to expanding to 40,000 acres there at one stage," Russell says.

However, with that success came jealousy from others in the region he says.

Russell spoke to Rural Exchange to warn about the dangers of cattle rustlers.
