How lameness in cows can affect a farm's productivity

Lameness in cows is not just an animal welfare issue, it can also impact a farm's productivity and economic situation. 

Angus Woods, from Shoof International, a developer and manufacturer of veterinary and animal breeding equipment, says hoof care issues are "significant" right across the country.

He says early intervention is key to overcoming the problem.

"If you can detect it early then the likely impact to your business and to the [animal's] welfare is a lot less," he told Rural Exchange.
