New technology can increase soil monitoring distance

A new soil monitoring system is enabling Kiwi farmers to make critical decisions around irrigation.

Loncel Technologies' Soil Moisture Monitoring systems have a range of sensors using LoRaWAN connectivity, which Loncel Technologies commercial manager Kevin Hirst says has many advantages. 

LoRaWAN is an alternative to cellular technology and works great when sending large amounts of data.

Hirst told Rural Exchange their new soil monitoring technology can reach a 30km distance with the right conditions.
