After 15 years of development, a company in the United States has finally released a pink pineapple.

The fruit isn't cheap though, selling online for a hefty US$50 per pineapple.

The product by Del Monte - officially named Pinkglow Pineapples - comes after the company received approval from the United States' Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2016, according to Food and Wine.

According to the company, the pineapples come from Costa Rica and can take as long as 24 months to grow. They are also, so the company says, "both juicier and sweeter" than traditional pineapples.

The fruit has its own Instagram page and has already racked up almost 30,000 followers.

Anyone willing to fork out for the cost of the pineapple will also get a certificate of authenticity.
