One person has died after a crash between a milk tanker and a mowing tractor near Rotorua on Wednesday.
Police said the incident happened at around 10:40am on State Highway 5 at Ngatira, around 25km out of Rotorua.
Police said two people were initially trapped following the crash and that the tractor driver died at the scene.
"The truck driver sustained moderate to minor injuries."
Diversions remain in place, and motorists were warned to expect delays.
"State Highway 5 remains CLOSED between Tirau and Rotorua as a serious crash investigation takes place. Please allow additional time for travel in the area as a long detour is in place," NZTA said.
