Livestock market: Demand from China drives strong mutton schedule

The mutton schedule is expected to remain strong over the next six months, driven primarily by demand from China, says Hugh Murchison of Heartland Bank.

Murchison spoke to Rural Exchange to give an update on the livestock market.

He said while prices for mutton are firm and there is a good amount of stock around, logistical considerations may cause an issue or two for exports.

Meanwhile, although the beef schedule was "reasonably steady" it was not forecast to increase significantly over the next few months, he said.
