Police received multiple calls about a young bull on the loose in Christchurch on Thursday morning.

The bull was seen near Barrington St in Addington around 6:30am.

Police and animal control finally managed to track the bull down in Sydenham cemetery around 7am, a police spokesperson told Newshub.

It's believed the animal came from the stockyards near the Canterbury A&P showgrounds.

A spokesperson from the Christchurch City Council said the bull has now been collected by its owners.
