Government set to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

The Government has set a new target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030 from their level in 2005.

All countries are expected to set new targets before climate change talks in Paris at the end of year.

But Opposition parties say the target doesn't go far enough.

Green Party co-leader and climate change spokesperson James Shaw joined Paul Henry this morning.

"We think there is a happy medium. It’s a target that is both bold and achievable. It’s about 40 percent reductions. We have seen around the world that it’s actually highly achievable and a number of places have already cut their emissions by a substantial amount."
