A new code of practice has been finalised to vet and teach tourist drivers who are renting a vehicle here.
The Rental Vehicle Association and Tourism Industry Association developed the system after concerns were raised about the safety of foreign drivers on our roads.
So how does the code work?
Tourism Industry Association chief executive Chris Roberts this morning joined Paul Henry to discuss how the code will be for "informing drivers and that most of the work actually happens before they enter the country".
He explains how foreigners who intend to drive in New Zealand will be given "information on websites, provided information when they make their booking, more information again before they arrive in New Zealand and then that assessment happens once they come and pick up their keys".
