Proposed changes to GST laws could soon see the 15 percent tax added to all imported goods worth over $25 – That means all the cheap knick-knacks you buy online late at night will no longer be quite so cheap.
So how would GST changes impact you, and are they a silver bullet for New Zealand's flagging retailers?
Consumer NZ chief executive Sue Chetwin this morning joined Paul Henry to whether this move is the Government's attempt to appease retailers.
"I think it is, particularly booksellers, but retailers generally," says Ms Chetwin. "They have been complaining that they're already behind the eight-ball when people are shopping online because people don't have to pay the 15 percent that they have to pay shops in GST."
