Māori Language Month: Word of the Day

Newsworthy is extending Maori Language Week with our own Te Marama o Te Reo Māori, or Māori Language Month.

We didn’t come up with the concept. The credit for that goes to a student at Waiuku College, who suggested it to Prime Minister John Key.

He didn’t love the idea, but we liked it so much we’re adopting it for Newsworthy.

Every weekday this month, our weather map will be in te reo Māori, and a Māori word of the day will feature on the show and here on newsworthy.nz.

Today’s word is ngahere, which means bush/forest.
