Police to have 'very strict' controls around Taser use

The fatal police shooting of 21-year-old David Cerven in Auckland is now the subject of three separate investigations.

Police are still to confirm whether Cerven was indeed carrying a gun.

It happened after he threatened to draw a weapon on officers, but the incident comes just days after police announced all frontline staff will be armed with Tasers.

So when is a Taser best deployed, and how do officers make a call to use a gun over a Taser?

Superintendent Chris Scahill told the Paul Henry programme while the Taser is effective, it's not the right tool for a gun fight.
