Anti-coal campaigners have long fought against the dirty fossil fuel.
For some this struggle has been the backdrop to their lives. One of them is Cindy Baxter from the Coal Action Network, who is celebrating the fact our last remaining coal-fired plant is ditching it.
Ms Baxter never thought this would happen in her lifetime, and this morning joined Paul Henry to discuss how this is "a landmark moment for New Zealand".
"I remember laughing myself when I first heard it and I remember other people laughing at me, but it's become a complete reality today – it's in the text that people will be talking about at the climate talks later this year."
