Volkswagen has a new chief executive. He is Matthias Muller, who had been the boss of VW subsidiary Porsche.

But the problems are growing for VW.

It has suspended some staff and Switzerland has suspended the sales of some of Volkswagen's diesel vehicles.

British firm Brand Finance has looked at the potential damage for the VW brand.

It says VW's brand was worth NZ$49 billion before the scandal. But $13 billion has been wiped from that total in the past week.

The scandal is also threatening Germany reputation.
