If fast food chain Wendy's gets its way, you might soon be able to enjoy a glass of wine with your big bacon classic burger.

The company is seeking a liquor licence for its Hornby site in Christchurch, but locals are worried about what might happen if it's given the chance to sell alcohol.

Christchurch Deputy Mayor Vicki Buck says she is worried about what precedent the move might set.

"There are a lot of kids, a lot of teenagers there and I think the important thing there is if people are concerned then they actually make submissions, that they have their voice heard," says Ms Buck.

"It is a really interesting case in terms of the potential precedent that it does set but for the Hornby people it's what it does to the neighbourhood that they're concerned about."

Ms Buck says she thinks the proposal is a "bit weird".

"I kind of don't get the association between fast food and alcohol. I'm used to 'do you want fries with that?' but 'do you want a beer with that or do you want a glass of wine with that?' is kind of unusual. I mean, this is a drive-through as well, the application is actually from 8 in the morning until 11 at night, I've got no idea what they're intending."

Submissions are open until November 6.
