Kieran Mischewski looks like your typical Kiwi bloke. But he's a power lifter who's broken national records and has just qualified for the Commonwealth powerlifting championships over in Canada.
No special diet, no fancy trainer and no strict plan – just good old hard work and determination.
Mischewski has been lifting heavy weights at home for two-and-a-half years.
He says it's good to be close to his family and it's a lot cheaper than a gym.
Powerlifting is a minority individual sport and there is no government funding available. There aren't a lot of funds floating around and Mischewski needs $7500 to cover his journey to Vancouver.
So how did this DIY dad in a wee garage in Tauranga find himself heading towards the world champs? Story went to find out.
