Kiwis pitch in to save kiwis

Here's a genuine chance for us all to get involved with saving our national bird. The data is a bit out of date, but we think there are about 70,000 kiwi left.

Now there's a new project asking Kiwi people to watch for signs of kiwi birds – think of it as a sort of census.

It costs a lot of money to maintain kiwi conservation schemes. If you want to help you can join in the Great Kiwi Morning Tea on October 16. People wanting to host a morning tea can register here.

Every $100 raised is enough to protect a kiwi for an entire year.
