Motorsport legend looks back on a vast career

Kiwi motorsport legend Greg Murphy took a look back at his career for his new book Murph – The Illustrated History.

Greg spoke to Paul Henry, telling him if he could go back and relive one moment it would be Bathurst in 2003.

"The shootout, setting a new record. Having all the people all around you," he says.

The new book takes shows a pictorial journey of his motorsport career from his early beginnings in karting up to 2014.

"The photographers and the media do take amazing pictures."

This year Greg attended Bathurst as a commentator, his first time out of the driver's seat in 21 years.

"When you have had success you want to perform all the time."

He says his team choices led him to the knowledge that he would never be at the very top of his field again.

"I just didn't have all the tools I needed to be able to do the job at my best. I hated mediocrity. But I've had a hell of a lot of fun."
