One of music's most successful bands play Auckland's Vector Arena tonight.

Kiss have sold more than 100 million albums and generated over US$1 billion in merchandise revenue in a career that has lasted more than 40 years.

There is much you can learn from the business success of the band.

1. Kiss knew the importance of creating a point of difference to their competition. Almost from day one the band's make up, costumes and stage show set them apart from other bands.

2. Surround yourself with smart people. People like their first manager, Bill Aucoin, and the boss of their first record label, Neil Bogart, were very important to their success.

3. Remember the importance of licensing and trademarks.

4. Look for new revenue streams. A movie has been released this year called Scooby Doo! and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery. It is introducing Kiss to a new and younger audience.
