There are more email and phone scams than ever, but there are simple things you can do to help protect yourself from the fraudsters.

Take care with emails: Do not reply to or click on links in emails that you are sent, even ones that look like they are from legitimate businesses. Do not call any numbers in spam emails.

Lately scammers have been phoning people claiming to be from companies like Microsoft and Spark. They try to encourage people to download software, or to allow them to gain remote control of the person's computer. Do not visit any web page they suggest and do not give them personal information.

If you receive an email or phone call with an offer or prize that seems too good to be true it probably is.
