Seven more Christmas Island detainees have been transferred to a Western Australian correctional facility, following rioting at the detention centre.

Australia's Immigration Minister has indicated more detainees could be moved, before being charged for property damage after this week's riot.

The Australian-run centre is being used as political football both here and across the Tasman.

Opposition parties here have been scathing about Prime Minister John Key's infamous "backing rapists" comments in the House this week.

Labour's Deputy Leader Annette King told the Paul Henry programme they feel aggrieved by the comments.

"The Prime Minister said it without proof," she says. "It's been shown that there weren't rapists and murderers there, but at the time he was accusing Opposition members of supporting them."
