PARLIAMENT WALK OUT
Prime Minister John Key’s accusations that Labour is, “backing the rapists” at the Christmas Island Detention Centre prompted a mass walk out in Parliament this week for two days in a row. Tuesday saw a mass walk out from Labour MPs after Speaker David Carter refused to make the Prime Minister apologise for his comments, and on Wednesday, a number of women from the opposition left the debating chamber in protest.
CHRISTMAS ISLAND
Seven New Zealanders have been transferred to a maximum security prison in Perth following riots at the Christmas Island Detention Centre. The detainees allegedly smashed property and took part in the recent stand off against authorities, causing $1 million in damage.
