An Invercargill woman trying to visit her dying friend in Auckland says she's shocked at the price of a one-way Air New Zealand ticket during the festive season.
Her public complaint on the company's Facebook page has reignited debate around the cost of some regional airfares.
Amanda Smith's friend hasn't got much time left, so she says it was a no-brainer to try and book flights to see her in Auckland just before Christmas.
But the hefty price tag stopped her in her tracks.
"It would have been me, my husband and my daughter Riley and it was going to cost us $3000 return," she says.
Between December 20 and the January 3 the lowest fare sits at just under $300, while the most expensive is $574 one-way.
