Rips: The biggest problem on the coast

It's the first day of summer and thoughts turn to the beach and the water.

But rips are the biggest problem on the coast – just this year, six people have died in rips alone.

The water can look deceptively calm and rips can be hard to spot, which is where people really get into trouble.

Story went out to Muriwai beach with Surf Life Saving NZ to demonstrate just how easy it can be to get caught in a rip and how dangerous they can be.
