Dunedin woman endures three-hour vacuum cleaner sales pitch

When a stranger knocked on Leonie Padgett’s door with a gift, she thought it was too good to be true and she was right.

The stranger was salesman and the gift was worth $6.

For the next three hours, Ms Padgett was being sold a vacuum cleaner worth $4500 and says the salesman did not leave her house until 10:45 in the evening.

She has described it as “the worst experience” so Story went to meet the mother-of-three. We also spoke to Consumer NZ about the event and how to avoid these situations.
