Should we be teaching sexual consent in high schools?

How would you feel about your child learning about consent, what constitutes rape and the law around having sex with someone who is drunk?

These are heavy topics but ACC believes teaching high school students about consent is the only way to stop our staggering sexual assault rates.

If you have a daughter, there is a one-in-three chance she has been, or will be, the victim of an unwanted sexual encounter by the time she is 16 years old.

Story went to Waihi College where staff are teaching consent through a programme designed and paid for by ACC.

The programme is now on offer to any school that wants it. 

It’s currently a non-compulsory programme, but should it be taught in all high schools?
