Two of the country's biggest banks have tightened up on their lending to property investors.
Westpac is no longer offering its special home loan rates to property investors. It is now offering them only to owner occupiers.
ANZ is no longer making new loans to property investors buying apartments off the plans, or buying empty sections.
The rules follow changes made by the Reserve Bank last November-- It now requires the banks to hold more capital when making loans for property investment.
The banks say this has added to their costs when they make loans to property investors.
