For the past decade Gerald Hope has wanted to meet Scott Watson - the man convicted of murdering his daughter Olivia and her friend Ben Smart in the early hours of New Year's Eve 1998.
However, setting up a meeting with the double-murderer has hit many roadblocks.
In March, the Department of Corrections approved a request by Watson to meet Mr Hope, but journalist Mike White was told he could not attend.
The ruling was challenged by both parties who sought a review to throw out the condition.
The judicial review is set to start on Wednesday, so Paul Henry spoke to Mr Hope about how optimistic he is that this meeting will get the go ahead.
