Family violence legislation to change

There are rafts of proposed measures set to change the way we deal with family violence issues in this country; a new Chief Victims Advisor, increased penalties for breaching protection orders, alarms and locks at the homes of victims, and a new scheme making it easier for police to release an offender's violent criminal past.

Prime Minister John Key is also set to make further announcements today.

Mr Key told the Paul Henry Show there are about 50 changes to legislation proposed, and "every women and child deserves to feel safe in their own home".

We spoke to Mr Key, and Newshub political correspondent Lloyd Burr about this.
