As the battle for the Iraqi city of Mosul heats up, the Government has been keen this week to talk up the role of Kiwi troops in the fight against Islamic State.

Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee has just returned from talks in Paris with the 13 countries that make up the global coalition to counter the group.

New Zealand has about 140 personnel in Iraq, training locals to fight the jihadists.
