One-hundred years ago, thousands of New Zealand soldiers were fighting and dying in one of the First World War's bloodiest battles - the five-month-long Somme offensive in Northern France.
So what happened that led us into that terrible battle and ultimately, what good, if any, came out of all that death and mutilation?
