Poll: Should beneficiaries face sanctions for failing to meet certain obligations?

National Party leader Simon Bridges says he is striving to help New Zealand beneficiaries help themselves, by calling for harsher sanctions on their payments from the Government.

"New figures show that since the Government took office, there has been a 21 per cent drop in the number of sanctions imposed, despite there being almost 2000 more people on the Jobseeker benefit," Mr Bridges says.

But welfare advocates say National is out of touch with the realities our poorest communities face.
