There are now 25 confirmed cases of measles in Canterbury with concerns it could spread to other areas.
Measles is highly infectious - if an unimmunised person goes within two metres of an infected person they have a 90 percent chance of contracting the disease.
To make matters worse Christchurch is suffering a shortage of vaccines for measles.
